I am glad this movie exists because it sparked a genre that inspired others to create films this way. When they go interview the old lady that saw the Blair Witch, that will give you major guidelines as to what it looks like.ДЄnyways, the acting is pretty nice even though there is a heavy amount of arguing throughout, the cinematography (as you probably know) was something unique for its time, and even though you never actually get to see this Blair Witch, you still respect that this movie scares/creeps you out without showing much. You see, imagination is a nice thing in horror because we can picture what the entity looks like, but there will never be an official image representing what it looks like. The interviews that these students condone on local townsfolk sure set an image for what the Blair Witch looks like. This film relies on its atmosphere to get you into the movie and it does a perfect job of that. In my first watch of this film, I turned off all the lights and sat down and watched. If only that was crammed into Hollywood producer's heads when they try and realize what made films such as Black Christmas and Poltergeist so scary before remaking them. I've heard many people call this a clever stunt with actually trying to get people to believe that these students actually went missing, but, as Roger Ebert said, it's a reminder that the things that scare us the most are the things we can't see. This was the godfather of all 'found footage' films. So, you already have a realistic camera to fit with the times instead of pulling off something such as Paranormal Activity 3 where it doesn't look like the time it was filmed in. It was released in the late 90s and the film said these 3 students were filming in 1993(?). Like KedwardвЂ™s updated story, their bodies vanished when the local townspeople returned to find them. Vaguely related to the witch, the location was the spot of a 19th century mass murder in the Blair Witch mythos where a group of men were found bound, had pagan markings carved into their bodies, and were disemboweled on the rock.
